AI readiness assessment — Phase 1 of the adoption strategy

An AI readiness assessment for your business: your real starting point, data maturity, candidate processes, and the foundation for your AI adoption strategy.

Phase 1 of the AI adoption strategy

Every AI adoption strategy that delivers real results starts with an assessment. Without a rigorous one, the strategy rests on untested assumptions — and wrong assumptions about the state of the data, the team’s capabilities, or how complex the processes are remain the most common reason AI projects miss their expected return.

This phase isn’t about producing a status report. It’s about building the factual foundation for sound AI investment decisions.

What we assess

Data maturity. Data is the input to any AI system. We look at what data exists, where it lives, how good it is, and what untapped value it holds. This isn’t a technical database audit — it’s an evaluation of whether your data is enough for the use cases you have in mind, and what preparation it would need before any model can be trained.

Candidate processes. We identify the business processes with the most to gain from AI by weighing three criteria: the economic impact of today’s problem, the data available to tackle it, and the technical complexity of the solution. The result is a prioritized opportunity map that feeds the strategy design.

Team capabilities. Technology doesn’t implement itself — a team adopts it. We assess digital literacy, prior experience with data analysis tools, and how much the organization already relies on data to make decisions. Any capability gaps become a training plan built into the roadmap.

Existing tech stack. Which ERP, CRM, MES, or data platforms you already have, how good their data is, which integrations exist, and which would be needed. Integration complexity is one of the biggest drivers of the real cost and timeline of any AI project.

Constraints and strategic context. The budget available for AI, the expected payback horizon, business priorities for the next two to three years, and any relevant industry or regulatory constraints. The strategy has to be realistic about the context the company operates in.

How it works

The assessment combines structured interviews with key stakeholders (leadership, operations managers, the data team if there is one, system users), a review of sample data and existing processes, and analysis of benchmarks relevant to your industry.

You receive an assessment document covering your current state in each dimension, an AI maturity score (on a 1–5 scale) for each area, and the prioritized opportunity map that feeds the next phase.

Why the assessment makes the difference

Companies that jump straight to implementation without an assessment tend to end up frustrated: the project starts, unforeseen data problems surface, integration with existing systems proves harder than estimated, or the team isn’t ready to adopt the solution. None of this was unpredictable — an upfront assessment would have caught it.

The assessment is the best-value investment in the whole AI adoption process — not because it prevents every problem, but because it lets you tackle them with a plan instead of improvising.

The full sequence

The assessment is Phase 1 of a four-stage process. Its findings feed directly into AI strategy design in Phase 2, which defines the concrete implementation roadmap.
